LED epitaxial wafer and chip maker and LED packaging service provider Lextar Electronics has received LED lighting orders with shipments scheduled through June 2015 and aims to ship more than 40 million LED light bulbs in 2015, according to the company.
Lextar has expanded its monthly packaging capacity from 1.2 billion LED chips to 2.0 billion units and set up completely automated LED lighting assembly lines at its factory in eastern China.
With strategic partnership with US-based Cree, Lextar began small-volume shipments of mid-power LED chips to Cree in the fourth quarter of 2014 and will significantly increase such shipments in 2015, the company said.
Lextar expects to obtain LED lighting orders from 4-5 new clients in the US and over 10 ones in Europe, with shipments to begin in the first quarter of 2015, the company noted. In addition, Lextar will compete for orders for LED chips, LED lighting packaging or DOB (driver on board) modules from 6,000-7,000 small- to medium-size LED lamp vendors/makers around the world, the company indicated.
Based on different demand among regions, Lextar has developed six voltage LED lighting models of 18-65V, with shipments expected to begin in the second quarter of 2015.
Lextar is expected to see fourth-quarter 2014 consolidated revenues drop sequentially by about 20% and the revenue proportion for LED lighting rise from nearly 30% in 2014 to 30-40% in 2015, according to local market analysts.
