GII to Inaugurate New Milk Protein Facility to Process Milk From Neighbouring Counties

Dairy ingredients firm Glanbia Ingredients Ireland (GII) will inaugurate a new milk protein facility on its existing site in Virginia, County Cavan on 15 December 2014.

The new facility will process milk from neighbouring counties, on both sides of the border for use in the worldwide clinical nutrition, sports and consumer food industries.

The facility will meet the exacting technical standards of the clinical and lifestyle nutrition market, a business which is expected to expand by double digits in the next ten years.

GII invested €200m in infrastructure in recent times to facilitate farmers and customers in expanding their businesses.

The investment was focused on the elimination of quotas in 2015 that offers dairy farmers in Ireland with a generational opportunity to expand production for the first time in 30 years.

GII is a 40:60 joint venture between Glanbia and Glanbia Cooperative Society. It processes a total of 1.6 billion litres of milk per year.

The company's products, the large majority of which are exported, include milk powders, butter, cheese, whey protein, milk protein and casein.

GII is in the process of building a €150m plant in Belview, Co. Waterford. The plant will cater for the planned increase in milk production in Ireland after the abolition of EU milk quotas in 2015.
