Car sales in the Europe increased 2% in April compared to corresponding month last year while year-to-date sales declined by 7.1%, according to JATO Dynamics.
Among the five major markets, car sales has reported rise in UK, Germany and Spain while sales decreased year on year in Italy and France.
Auto brands like Volkswagen, Ford, Opel/Vauxhall, Audi and Mercedes have reported increase in sales during April while Mercedes was the only brand among the top ten to register an increase in year-to-date sales of 2.4%, compared to last year.
B-segment models were comprised four out of the top five best-selling models with VW Polo and Peugeot 208 registering year over year sales increase.
JATO vice president of research Gareth Hession said, "The latest figures show just how much difference having a new product can make, with Volkswagen, Peugeot, Renault and Audi all enjoying increased sales and all but the latter producing one of the top four best-selling models in April."
Volkswagen Golf was the best-selling car in the region reporting 17.9% increase in year-on-year sales during the month.
