Ford invested C$700m ($562m) for revamping the Canadian plant including new technologies for the production of the new vehicle.

The auto maker has upgraded 1,000 robots and 250 new ones in the plant, along with the introduction of new software and vision systems to improve efficiency, precision and quality of the production.

Ford Canada CEO Dianne Craig said: "We're proud to show the world advanced manufacturing right here in Canada and look forward to serving new global customers.

"The Oakville Assembly team has worked relentlessly to deliver a quality product to the highest standard - from bringing in the best of Ford's manufacturing technologies to training new employees across the facility."

The 2015 Ford Edge is powered by 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine which will feature advanced park assist facilitating parallel and side parking through the side parking sensors and a front camera with washer.

The vehicle will be shipped around the world with addition of right-hand-drive and a diesel engine.
