Mazda Introduced Rotor Engine Powered Mazda RX-Vision Sports Car

Mazda has unveiled Mazda RX-VISION sports car featuring rotary engines at the Tokyo Motor Show.

Rotary engines generate power through the rotational motion of a triangular rotor.

Mazda fitted the engine in the Cosmo Sport which was launched in 1967. However, the mass production is currently on hold.

The latest rotary engine is named SKYACTIV-R as it is based on the SKAYCTIV TECHNOLOGY and is likely solve three key issues with previous rotary engines which include fuel economy, emissions and reliability.

Mazda RX-VISION sports car is a two-door, two-seat coupé, which the company described as 'Mazda's vision for the ultimate in front-engine, rear-wheel drive sports car styling'.

The new concept car features KODO design-based proportions which explore various design themes of motion.

KODO has already been used for designing some of the vehicles including in Mazda2, Mazda3, New Mazda6, CX-5, CX-9 and our first small SUV, Mazda CX-3.

The RX-Vision measures 4389mm long, is 1925mm wide, has height of 1160mm and a wheelbase of 2700mm.

The measurements have made the car wider than Jaguar's F-type coupé sports car, and significantly lower, which has been achieved due to the compact nature of the rotary engine.

Mazda representative director Masamichi Kogai said: "I look forward to talking with you more about this vision we have revealed here today at the Mazda stand.

"Mazda will continue to take on new challenges in an effort to build a special bond with our customers and become their 'one and only' brand."
