Mercedes-Benz along with its joint venture partner Beijing Benz Automotive has started the production of GLC SUV at their production facility in Beijing, China.
The new GLC SUV is the second localized SUV model at the assembly lines, as previously the company started the production of GLA SUV.
As a successor of Mercedes' flagship GLK, the GLC SUV has been designed to be more spacious with features that are designed to suit the needs of local Chinese customers.
The car features more comfortable rear seat passengers with head restraints and additional connectivity features for the rear compartment center console.
Mercedes said that the engines fitted in the GLC are locally produced making them the first ever passenger car engine plant outside of Germany.
With the production of GLC, the plant has begun the second phase of development for new rearwheel architecture vehicles into full operation.
The new production facilities are spread across 250,000 m2.
Daimler board of management member Hubertus Troska said: "China is already our number one market for the GLA and GLK. The GLC will undoubtedly continue our SUV success story here as it tops its predecessor.
"The All New GLC is also the latest proof for the tremendous development of our local production footprint. In 2015 BBAC will see for the first time ever an annual output of over 200,000 units."
The first GLC models are expected to be launched during the Guangzhou Auto Show.
