US based biotech company Dynamic Food Ingredients (DFI) and Mitr Phol Group have formed a strategic partnership to expand production of natural sweeteners and other products in Asia.
Mitr Phol, Thailand’s biggest sugar and exporter, will be investing an undisclosed sum to support commercialization of DFI’s natural sweetener processing technology.
According to DFI, the natural sweeteners produced by its technology are aimed at offering improved taste and health benefits in comparison to the low calorie sweeteners in the market.
DFI founder and CEO Paul Magnotto said that the partnership with Mitr Phol will allow the company to expand its electrochemistry platform which transforms common sugars into natural low calorie products without compromising on taste.
Magnotto also said: “Importantly, this joint venture partnership will provide access to the world's largest market while leveraging a well-established customer base and technical prowess for factories in Asia.”
Mitr Phol Group CEO Krisda Monthienvichienchai said that both companies will be building production facilities in Thailand.
Monthienvichienchai also revealed that the two produced natural sweeteners erythritol and xylitol will be sourced from Thailand-grown sugarcane and cassava.
DFI chief commercial officer Richard Bellas said: “While Erythritol and Xylitol are currently sold in natural food stores, this partnership with MP could reach into the 100’s of millions of Asian homes with a tabletop portfolio, too.
As part of the partnership, the companies will also be developing ingredients that could cut down antibiotic uses in animal feed.
