American automaker Ford Motor has selected QNX technology from the technology giant BlackBerry for its next-generation in-car Sync information and entertainment system, replacing Windows from Microsoft.
This move by the carmaker is to address persistent problems reported by users currently using Windows-based system.
According to the company, QNX will be cost effective when compared to the Microsoft technology. The technology will improve the flexibility and speed of the next Sync system, reported Bloomberg.
Currently, there are over 7 million Ford vehicles running with Sync system that uses Microsoft voice-activated software to make mobile-phone calls and play music.
Earlier in January 2014, parking information provider Parkopedia introduced an app compatible with Ford SYNC AppLink in-car connectivity system from Ford Motor.
AppLink-equipped Ford vehicle drivers can use Parkopedia by installing it on an iOS or Android-based smartphone.
