Today Organizers Announced GlassDevCamp

Today organizers announced GlassDevCamp, the first community-led event for the emerging Google Glass development community. The event will be held in the San Francisco Bay Area during summer 2013. GlassDevCamp is a not-for-profit developer event for Google Glass, encouraging development using The Google Mirror API. The event will focus on the creation and demonstration of new glassware apps for Google Glass.

The organization of the event is being led by mobile technologist, Raven Zachary , founder of iPhoneDevCamp and the director of the official 2008 Obama for America mobile app and Chaotic Moon Studios (http://chaoticmoon.com) co-founder and iPhoneDevCamp co-founder whurley. With tremendous excitement for Google Glass, the two realized it was the perfect time to help build the developer community around this new platform.

"We have been organizing events for development communities since 2007 as a way of getting creative developers, designers, and entrepreneurs together to build compelling projects, many of which end up turning into businesses," said Raven Zachary. "We're gathering to celebrate the potential of Google Glass and see what amazing new things can be created with it. We are community development advocates who love spending time with brilliant and creative people who inspire others to build great things."

GlassDevCamp will be held over a weekend, from early evening on a Friday through late afternoon on a Sunday. People will gather, form teams, build new glassware apps for Google Glass using The Google Mirror API, get up onstage to demo their creations, and then prizes will be awarded for the best glassware apps created during the event.

"With the release of Google Glass we're approaching a major milestone in computing history. Just like the smartphone, Google Glass is about to create yet another shift in the way we interact with technology," said whurley. "Events like GlassDevCamp are critical to the evolution of the development communities around new technologies. Its inclusive nature allows anyone from designers and developers to users and even just the curious to participate."

GlassDevCamp will announce a venue in the near future and is currently seeking sponsors. All of sponsor and attendee fees go directly to event production. As a not-for-profit, volunteer-based event team, all money is used for the event, never for individuals or profit. Any money left over from the event is allocated to future events or donated to non-profit causes.
