Infiniti, the luxury car manufacturing division of Japanese automaker Nissan Motor Company plans to bring out a luxury model of Nissan Leaf electric vehicle.
The new model will feature induction-based charging technology which will not require any charging cables.
Infiniti plans to offer different exterior and interior in the EV based on the Nissan hatchback.
The new model will however will depend on introduction of standard process of induction charging system around the world.
Nissan executive vice president and head of Infiniti Andy Palmer was quoted by autocar.co.uk as saying, "The whole concept of not having to couple up cables to a plug socket, dragging them on the ground and on you as you go, is in keeping with luxury motoring. "
"It is this technology we want to shine a light on, so while there is no world standard on methods, the roll-out will be dependent on region," Palmer said.
The company is however not keen on developing the induction technology on its own, rather insisting car makers to develop the induction technology on an open source method.
