US-based Supermechanical is set to develop a new food thermometer for iOS devices, which can determine temperature of meat as well as other food items.
The new product, known as Range, comes in two varieties - one for meat and the other for high temperature cooking such as candy-making.
In order to use the device, the users can insert one end of the device in the food stuff and the other end to the headphone jack of the iPad or the iPhone. The Range app then displays the temperature in the smartphone, reported Macrumors.com.
An alert can be set for the desired temperature on the Range app. The app includes presets for common foods. Range graphs the temperature over a period of time, while the dish is being prepared. Once the desired temperature is reached, the app provides an alert.
The team behind the device is launching the device through Kickstarter, a US-based private company that provides tools to raise funds for creative projects via crowd funding through its website. The device is available on Kickstarter for $49 for one, or $89 for both variants.
