Mercedes-Benz has announced that it is expanding its Sprinter based driver assistance systems to campers vans.
The technology includes lane keeping assist, blind spot assist, highbeam assist, collision prevention assist and Crosswind Assist to purpose-built motorhome bodies based on the new vans.
The Crosswind Assist will be adopted by camper maker Hymer for its semi-integrated Hymer ML-T from January.
The Crosswind Assist system is designed to automatically activate when the vehicle attains a speed of 80 km/h and uses the sensors of the Electronic Stability Program (ESP).
It is designed to detect the forces acting on the vehicle owing to crosswind gusts and accordingly it applies specific brake pressure to individual wheels which eventually reduces driver's workload.
The Crosswind Assist will be individually configured for each model variants deepening upon the vehicles length, height and weight.
Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is powered by diesel engines with four and six cylinder options and is capable of producing 95 hp to 190 hp.
It features spacious and furnished interior and it weighs up to 5.0 t cover a wide range of applications.
Mercedes-Benz Vans director sales planning and development Roland Zey said: "Campers based on our van models must also fulfill the high demands of our vehicle safety standards. Our safety and assistance systems help to achieve this goal."
