Japanese carmaker Mazda is recalling more than 100,000 Mazda 6 sedans from the 2014-15 model years due to issues with the tire pressure monitoring system.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recalled vehicles were manufactured between 25 October 2012 and 10 October 2014.
If the pressure in the tires gradually drop at the same time, the tire pressure monitoring system may not warn the driver of the decrease in pressure, and a vehicle that is driven with under-inflated tires may experience a sudden tire failure, increasing the risk of a crash.
According to the company, no accidents or injuries have been reported related to this problem so far.
In early December, the company will notify affected owners and dealers will update the tire pressure monitoring system software free of charge.
The NHTSA said that if a problem is found, Mazda dealers will run a software update on the tire pressure monitoring system, without any extra cost.
