Walter Reiners-Stiftung Foundation Honours Three Young Engineers for Research in Textiles

At the ongoing Techtextil, the Walter Reiners-Stiftung Foundation honoured three successful young engineers for research in textiles.

The prize-winning papers included fabrication of fibre composites, a modelling approach of a parachute and development of textile implants for the treatment of bone fractures.

“Peter Dornier, chairman of Lindauer Dornier and also chairman of the Walter Reiners-Stiftung Foundation honoured the researchers,” a press release from VDMA Textile Machinery Association informed.

The promotion prize in the dissertation category endowed with €5,000 was awarded to Dr. Wolfgang Trümper of TU Dresden.

In his dissertation, he showed how preforms for fibre-reinforced composites in 2D and also 3D can be produced by flat knitting technologies.

The promotion prize of €3,000 in the diploma category was bagged by Jan Fleischmann too of TU Dresden and his subject was the modelling approach of a reserve parachute.

Moritz Eger, also of TU Dresden was rewarded the best student research award with the creativity prize amounting to €2,000.

His project was on development of a textile reinforced osteosynthesis implant for the treatment of bone fractures.

With the Walter Reiners-Stiftung Foundation, VDMA Textile Machinery Association is actively engaged in promoting junior engineers.

Every year, the foundation grants promotion prizes for dissertations and master or diploma thesis as well as one creativity prize for seminar papers.

Students regularly gain an insight into practices with excursions to member companies and to the leading textile exhibition ITMA, which are financially supported by the foundation.
