Global pharmaceutical contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) Aesica has introduced serialization services at its Pianezza finished dose manufacturing and packaging site in Italy.
At the site, the company also initiated commercial production of two anti-allergy product packaging lines for the Chinese market for a global, multinational client.
According to the company, the packaging lines and associated services are intended for the supply for one of its partners.
In order check the linear barcode 128 and 20 digit serialized numbers, the technology uses special digital techniques.
The platform is said to have the capability for both thermal transfer and thermal ink jet printers for printing stickers with e-codes as well as variable data with 2D bar codes, respectively.
Aesica Pianezza senior president Paolo Pizzorni said the partnership model has seen the successful development of two serialization packaging lines.
"For our customer this means improved patient safety with a reduced risk of competition from counterfeit products and the ability to detect expired drugs automatically," Pizzorni added.
