Sunsprout Natural Foods Is Recalling Sunsprout and Sproutsalive Brand Alfalfa Sprouts

Sunsprout Natural Foods is recalling Sunsprout and SproutsAlive brand alfalfa sprouts as they may be contaminated with Salmonella, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).

Sunsprout Natural Foods Recalls Alfalfa Sprouts in Canada

The products being recalled are Sunsprout, 140g, bearing UPC 0 57621 13501 7, and best before code of BB JUN 13; and SproutsAlive, 140g, bearing UPC 0 69022 00030 6, and best before code BB JUN 13.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.

The manufacturer, Sunsprout Natural Foods, Brantford, Ontario, is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace, while the CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.

Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled. Consumption of food contaminated with these bacteria may cause salmonellosis, a foodborne illness. In young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems, salmonellosis may cause serious and sometimes deadly infections.
