Nico Underwear has just become the first Australian underwear brand to be accredited by Ethical Clothing Australia (ECA).
Nico Underwear recently completed Ethical Clothing Australia's accreditation process and gained their certification; a program that assists the local textile, clothing and footwear industry ensure Australian workers receive fair wages and decent conditions.
Lis Harvey, a young designer from Brisbane launched Nico Underwear in January 2012. Only eight months after, she has achieved accreditation with ECA. "We are really pleased this accreditation recognises our on-going commitment to ethical manufacturing. It is important to guarantee to our customers that their choice to buy Nico is an ethical one," she says of her decision to make Nico ethically conscious.
Simon Mc Rae, National Manager of ECA said: "We are delighted that Nico, a young and upcoming designer, recognises the importance of making your supply chain ethical. We are proud that Nico are our first local underwear maker to be accredited."
ECA is keen to encourage young designers to build their business model considering ethical manufacturing and treating people fairly, as Lis Harvey did. "Nico Underwear is first and foremost a fashion brand but we are also committed to ethical practice and sustainability", she says.
All Nico Underwear pieces are designed and made in Australia for stylish women ladies who have a strong sense of individuality.
Ethical Clothing Australia's accreditation and labelling system helps consumers make an informed choice for ethical shopping. When you see the Ethical Clothing Australia trademark on a garment, it means everyone involved in its production received fair wages and worked in decent conditions.
