Superior Farms Has Opened a New Processing Facility in Dixon

Lamb producer Superior Farms has opened a new processing facility in Dixon, in the US state of California.

Located adjacent to the current facility, the new plant will become completely operational by the end of August this year.

The 50,000ft2 plant will be capable of processing a single lamb in 28 minutes and can humanely harvest up to 1,400 lambs per day.

This green facility with natural lighting and wind power is expected to reduce the company's water usage by 20% and energy consumption by 45%, thereby reducing total carbon footprint.

Superior Farms Operations vice president Shane MacKenzie said: "we built this plant to be as water smart as possible and to ensure that almost every drop is repurposed for sustainable uses."

Last year, the company processed 6,200 lambs and goats from California, Oregon, and Washington.

The company offers lamb and beef products; lamb cuts and portions, leg of lamb, lamb loin, rib, lamb shoulder, and ground lamb products; lamb racks and chops, and lamb leg steaks; and neck slices, breast of lamb, and shanks.

It has close to 400 employee-owners at its facilities and offices across the US.
