Tesla Unveils 100 KWh Battery for Model X and S

Tesla Motors has unveiled a 100 kWh battery pack for the Model X and Model S, which the company claims can travel up to 315 miles non-stop.

According to the electric carmaker, the Model S P100D in Ludicrous mode is one of the fastest production cars, accelerating from 0-60 miles per hour (mph) time in 2.5 seconds. This, it claims is only next to LeFerrari and Porsche 918 Spyder.

The battery pack can also be fitted on Model X, the company’s electric SUV and this addition makes it even faster.

Model X in Ludicrous mode can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds and will have a range of an estimated 289 miles for EPA and 542km in EU on single charge.

Tesla has given out the pricing details for the new battery pack. The company says that those who have order P90D Ludicrous and have not taken the delivery can upgrade to the new battery for an additional price of $10,000.

Customers who are already driving P90D Ludicrous, can upgrade to the new battery pack of 100kWh for $20,000. Tesla says that the high cost is due to the recycling cost of the old battery.

Tesla has appealed to its customers that the sale of the high end models including Model S and Model X and their accessories will pay for the development of Model 3, which is the latest offering by the company.

Apart from this, Tesla also emphasised that its vehicles have been engineered to be very safe and have earned high ratings for safety from NHTSA.

The models S and X will periodically receive over the air updates which will make them safer. And these models will have access to Tesla’s Supercharger network, which lets long distance for free.
