Digi-Key has set up a local sales and customer support activity for the UK and Ireland market following an expansion of its local customerbase in the last 12 months.
The online distributor is expanding its local sales presence in Europe and in addition to the UK sales activity it has opened a European sales and support office in Munich, with the appointment of three additional EMEA regional sales directors.
“Our expanded European presence will support Digi-Key’s traditional customerbase along with an increasing number of corporate buyers requiring higher-volume production orders,” said Kris Haggstrom, vice president of strategic customer development, EMEA and Asia Pacific, at Digi-Key.
Digi-Key also has a customer support centre in the Netherlands, with 31 agents who assist customers based within the EMEA region.
Based in Reading, the sales director’s role will be to grow Digi-Key’s small order production business in the UK and Ireland.
Digi-Key has seen its short-order production sales to small and medium-sized manufacturers grow significantly in the US and now it is bringing this business to Europe.
Since his appointment, Wallace has been working with local customers and suppliers to grow the local customerbase.
He is focusing on Digi-Key’s “Prototype-to-Production” model, which adds the servicing of high-mix, low-volume production orders, to Digi-key's traditional design engineer services.
“Our unique hybrid business model, coupled with local sales representatives, is an equation for success and I am excited to be part of the Digi-Key team," said Wallace.
