US-based automotive systems and components provider TRW Automotive has introduced its latest Electric Park Brake (EPB) technology which functions like a conventional hydraulic brake and an electric brake.
EPB can be easily integrated with a vehicles Electronic Stability Control system to enable four-wheel antilock functionality, the company said.
It features the drive away assist function that holds the vehicle in a stop position without having to depress the brake pedal.
The system uses electric cables and control switches, simplifies routing and provides freedom for the design of the vehicles interior.
TRW sales executive vice president Peter Lake said: "Because EPB is electronically rather than mechanically controlled it can work with a variety of vehicle systems and sensors."
"In addition EPB can be integrated with a vehicle's Electronic Stability Control system to enable full four-wheel anti-lock functionality enhancing safety in an emergency braking situation."
"There is also a drive away assist function which holds the vehicle in a stopped position without the need to constantly depress the brake pedal - an excellent traffic jam feature."
