China Shenhua Energy Co Mined 25 Million Mt of Commercially Ready Coal in December

China Shenhua Energy Co, a listed subsidiary of Shenhua Group, mined 25 million mt of commercially ready coal in December, up 1.6% year on year, the company said in a statement issued Tuesday. 

Over January-December 2012, China Shenhua Energy mined a total of 304 million mt of coal, up 7.8% year on year. 

China Shenhua Energy's coal sales in December totaled 52.2 million mt, up 36.6% year on year. Of that, exports comprised 200,000 mt, which were down 60% year on year. 

For the whole of 2012, China Shenhua Energy sold 464.6 million mt of coal, up 19.9% year on year. Of that, exports comprised 3.3 million mt, down 41.1% from a year ago. 

The company imported 1.9 million mt of coal in December and a total of 10.7 million mt over January-December. It did not import any coal in 2011. 

The company did not provide a breakdown of thermal coal and coking coal figures. It has a coking coal mining capacity of around 20 million mt/year, mainly from Shenhua Group subsidiaries Shenhua Wuhai Energy in Inner Mongolia and Shenhua Ningxia Coal Mining Group in Ningxia Hui autonomous region. Its thermal coal mining capacity is not clear. 

China Shenhua Energy generated 19.31 billion kWh of electricity in December from its captive power plants, up 20.8% year on year. Over January-December its power generation totaled 207.9 billion kWh, up 10.4% from 2011.
