US Foods to Acquire Meat Manufacturer FirstClass Foods

US Foods has agreed to acquire California-based meat manufacturer FirstClass Foods for an undisclosed price.

Headquartered in Hawthorne, FirstClass Foods has about $55m in annual sales.

Since 1962, FirstClass Foods has been delivering custom processed and portion control cuts of beef, lamb, pork, poultry, veal and seafood and specialty meat products across the Southern California region.

The acquisition is expected to be completed by the end of this month.

FirstClass Foods president Solly Benzimra said: “From the very beginning, we have delivered on our commitment to our customers and we are looking forward to the next chapter for our company as part of US Foods.”

The 50,000 square foot facility in Hawthorne, where FirstClass Foods has its operations, is set to be used as a US Foods Stock Yards facility.

Following the acquisition, US Foods will retain the services of over 100 employees who have been working for FirstClass Foods.

US Foods Stock Yards president David Norton said: “US Foods has worked with FirstClass Foods for years and we’ve experienced the company’s commitment to high quality products and consistency.

“This acquisition will allow us to expand our center of the plate offering and better serve our customers throughout southern California.”

Last month, US Foods had acquired another meat processor and distributor, SRA Foods based in Birmingham, Alabama which has annual sales of around $80m.

SRA Foods, which was bought for an undisclosed sum, has become a part of the Stock Yards unit of US Foods.

Stock Yards is responsible for manufacturing meat and seafood in custom cut and packaged formats as per the specifications of US Foods’ customers.
