BlackBerry Users Are Experiencing a Loss of Services on The Vodafone Network

BlackBerry users are today experiencing a loss of services on the Vodafone network, the second major outage since September 2012.

BlackBerry manufacturer RIM pinned the blame for the fault squarely on Vodafone.

"All BlackBerry services are operating normally but we are aware that a wider Vodafone service issue is impacting some of our BlackBerry customers in Europe,Middle East and Africa,"said a RIM spokesperson."We are supporting Vodafone's efforts to resolve the issue as soon as possible,"she added.

Vodafone has accepted resposnibility for the issue, claiming a router error to be behind the problems.

"Vodafone can confirm that some BlackBerry customers experienced issues with their data services this morning in Europe,Middle East and Africa. The issue was caused by a router error,"said a statement sent to Computing."Services are in the process of being restored and we continue to monitor the situation closely. We apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused and we will provide updates as necessary."

Vodafone is currently preparing an updated statement for Computing, which will be published here as soon as it is received.

The September outage affected the same region, with Vodafone at the time claiming that the fault was RIM's.

A Vodafone alert in September read:"As far as we can tell all BlackBerry services have gone down. This is a RIM issue and is affecting all devices across all networks. We haven't had any official communication from RIM just yet."

When Computing asked a RIM spokesperson at the time to confirm the extent of networks and geographical service areas affected, they said the company is"not sure"on either count.

A recent Computing survey showed that only 14 per cent of enterprise smartphone users count a BlackBerry as their primary device.

The company made 5,000 job cuts in June, prior to the delayed release of the BlackBerry 10 handset.
