US-based packaging products maker Weatherchem has invested significantly toward its eventual target of becoming landfill-free, as the firm claims it takes environment seriously.
In the recent past, Weatherchem installed new electric presses that used 30% less energy and 800,000 fewer gallons of water per year, in addition to a chiller that used about 45% less energy to cool interior spaces.
With increased efforts in 2011, Weatherchem said its employees cut scrap levels by 50%, as the firm started recycling pallets, corrugated paper and shrink wrap.
Weatherchem claims it generated 24 tons less trash last year, compared to 2007, though its production doubled during the same period.
Light-weight closures will be manufactured in 2012 as part of the sustainability measures, which not only consume less material, but cut down on shipping costs of the closures, meaning each closure has 25% reduced production cycle time.
Weatherchem Corporation manufactures convenient plastic dispensing closures and develops controlled access packaging solutions.
