Nissan has announced that the company will conduct a local trial run of a car-sharing network for residents of the Sakonyama Danchi District in Yokohama City, Japan, starting this March using its using ultra-compact EVs.
Nissan will be joining forces with a semipublic housing agency named Urban Renaissance (UR), in order to study the potential of using ultra-compact EVs as a mode of transport, which will complement the existing public transportation system.
Expected to continue until the end of March 2016, the tests are also aimed to measure the value of ultra-compact EVs as short-range modes of transport.
Nissan is planning to use Fulltime System's automated key rental devices dubbed F-rents Community System, for monitoring the rented device.
The company has already delivered 60 condominium car-sharing vehicles in Japan.
Nissan said: "For fiscal year 2015, instead of keeping with previous trial runs where the car-sharing program was focused on limited users, this project intends to implement fee-based car-sharing trial runs for a broader scope of users in these apartment complexes to further promote practical application of the ultra-compact EVs."
