Swedish carmaker Volvo has handed over the production of its XC90 to Chinese car company Geely to develop another high-end brand in China.
Volvo's new XC90 is expected to be launched in 2014, in the interim Geely procures the P2 platform on which the old XC90 was manufactured.
The platform was deployed by Ford and Volvo for the production of models including Taurus, Explorer, Flex, Lincoln MKS and MKT.
Geely had launched its first SUV, the GX7, at the Beijing Auto Show, which is claimed to be the company's first AWD vehicle, powered by a 1.8L engine mated to a six speed manual gearbox.
