Chrysler has announced that it will be voluntarily replacing front passenger-side airbag inflators to fix issues with its deployment.
Around 149,150 vehicles are affected with the issue which includes 2003 version of Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks.
Chrysler however said it is unaware of any injuries related to the improper deployment of the airbag inflators and it claims that there were no failures recorded in laboratory testing of its air-bag modules.
The company previously took a regional field action to replace inflators in certain cars and trucks because humidity adversely affected component performance.
Chrysler announced that it is conducting a study of issue with great urgency which indicates that the risk is more in humid areas including Alabama, Hawaii , Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas and Saipan, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
According to Chrysler the inflators used in Ram are not used in any of the other vehicles produced by the company.
Chrysler is planning to notify owners starting from 19th January 2015, and the affected vehicles will be provided with free servicing.
