Ford Aims to Develop Stability Control Technology

Ford has announced the new 2015 Ford Focus with stability control technology, which is designed to predict potential spinouts and prevents the driver from losing control of the car.

The feature facilitates dynamic driving maneuvers and provides information regarding car's speed, turn rate of the steering wheel, and steering wheel position, to find out when a skid is about to happen.

If there is risk of skid, the breaks are applied to individual wheels which enable the driver to maintain control.

The transitional stability technology mixes real-time data from sensors throughout the vehicle, and it will come as a standard feature for the new Focus.

The technology is capable of foreseeing a potential spin by 100 to 200 milliseconds.

According to Ford, the new technology was created with an algorithm that was used in the company's Roll Stability Control technology.

The transitional stability technology is a part of Ford's efforts to make the 2015 Ford Focus more connected to the roads and provide a better driving dynamics.

Ford North America Brake Controls manager David Messih said: "By recognizing scenarios that can lead to a potential loss of driver control before oversteer has developed, the enhanced transitional stability system is setting the recovery process in motion quicker than ever before - resulting in smoother, more refined control."
