Taiwan has recalled food products illegally imported from five Japanese regions affected by the earthquake in 2011 and consequent nuclear disaster.
According to Food and Drug Administration director General Chiang Yu-mei, country's health officials have issued a recall of 294 food products which came from those prefectures, Chem Info reported.
This latest development comes after health investigators inspected more than 3,000 questionable food items, wherein 12 out of those recalled products carried Chinese labels different from the actual place of origin.
The investigation to uncover the origin of remaining 282 items is still underway.
Taiwanese health authorities have also sent the questionable products to the Atomic Energy Commission for radiation examination.
In Taiwan, it is illegal to import food products from five Japanese prefectures struck by the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster, also including nearby prefectures of Ibaraki, Gunma, Tochigi and Chiba, Chiang said.
In February this year, Taiwan imposed a temporary ban on beef product imports from Canada, over the bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) outbreak.
