Japanese automaker Toyota Motor has issued a voluntary recall on 6.39 million vehicles globally for various defects including steering and seats.
The recall affects 27 Toyota models including the RAV4 SUV and Yaris subcompact. The company has also observed defects in Pontiac Vibe and the Subaru Trezia models that it produced for General Motors and Fuji Heavy Industries.
However, the company has not received any complaints any crashes or injuries caused by these defects.
According to the company, around 3.5 million vehicles will be recalled in order to replace a spiral cable. The cable would be damaged when the steering wheel is turned, resulting in the failure of air bag activation during the event of a crash.
The company will recall 2.32 million three-door models to test the rails that could cause the seat to slide forward in a crash. These vehicles were manufactured from January 2005 through August 2010.
Remaining vehicles will be recalled for faulty steering column brackets, windshield wiper motors and engine starters.
