Unilever has acquired US-based gelato producer Talenti Gelato & Sorbetto for an undisclosed amount in a bid to expand its ice cream business.
The acquisition expands Unilever's ice cream category under 30 gelato and sorbetto flavors, comprising Ben & Jerry's, Breyers, Fruttare, Good Humor, Klondike, Magnum and Popsicle, with the addition of Talenti's packaged gelato portfolio.
Unilever North America president Kees Kruythoff said: "Welcoming Talenti to the Unilever family marks another step in our North America portfolio transformation.
"The acquisition widens Unilever's position in the fast-growing gelato market with its artisanal offerings and its clear, distinct and recyclable packaging. We are looking forward to growing and developing this fantastic brand further."
Available in various flavours, Talenti products are made from the finest ingredients, using artisanal methods.
It is expected to generate over $120m in turnover this year.
