AltaLink is a fully independent transmission company, responsible for the maintenance and operation of approximately 11,600 kilometres of transmission lines and 260 substations in Alberta. AltaLink is seeking to hire a:

Lifecycle Engineer - Calgary, Alta.
This is a full-time permanent position.
 
Summary:
The Lifecycle Engineer will work with numerous teams and subject matter experts to define, implement, and evolve lifecycle plans and assessments. The engineer will ensure asset plans are included in the long term work forecast and participate in the creation of business cases to support AltaLink’s multi-year tariff filing with the Alberta Utilities Commission (General Tariff Application).
 
Description:
Reporting to the Manager of Lifecycle Management, the Lifecycle Engineer will be part of AltaLink’s Asset Management organization. The Lifecycle Management team’s goal is to direct the optimization and balance of cost, risk and performance for AltaLink’s power system assets and systems throughout their lifecycle. This is done by creating and implementing cradle to grave “Whole of Life” asset plans; by assessing and trending risk, capital/operating expenditures and system performance; by applying lifecycle models and methodologies; and by creating a long term view of maintenance activities and corresponding investment requirements. By understanding the cost, risk and performance implications of asset management decisions, AltaLink will ensure that the needs of the power system are balanced with the needs of the end users.
 
Responsibilities:
• Implement and evolve “cradle to grave” plans for AltaLink’s power system assets which support Asset Management’s long term strategies and objectives. 
• Create forward looking forecasts of capital and operating investments related to the power system assets. 
• Asses the effectiveness of AltaLink’s existing asset maintenance strategies and provide recommendations for improvement where necessary.
• Identify and analyze factors which contribute to asset failure risk and identify mitigation options and control measures. 
• Capture and analyze asset performance trends and provide recommendations for improvement where necessary. 
• Implement and evolve Lifecycle models and methodologies which provide reasoning and justification for asset life extension, replacement, and upgrade programs. 
• Prioritize and rank power system asset investment projects using quantified decision making processes.
 
Qualifications:
• Professional Engineer in good standing with APEGGA or other provincial engineering association with 5 years experience. 
• Must be able to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment. 
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to develop strong internal and external relationships. 
• Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.
Experience in the following areas is required:
• Risk identification, quantification and ranking. 
• Business needs analysis including forecasting. 
• Business case preparation and evaluation.
Experience with the following would be an asset:
• Asset Management Strategies. 
• Statistical and reliability analysis. 
• High Voltage Electrical Transmission equipment. 
• Working in a regulated environment.
• Proven track record of good attendance and performance.
