DuPont to Invest $100m to Expand Probiotic Production in US

DuPont Nutrition & Health has announced to invest $100m to increase its probiotics manufacturing capacity in the US.

The specialty food ingredient company expects to increase the production of probiotics by 70% through the new investment.

To optimize production of its probiotics, DuPont will use the investment on installation of new, high-volume fermenters along with other processing equipment.

DuPont Nutrition & Health president Matthias Heinzel said: “This investment reinforces our commitment to the probiotics industry. We see strong growth worldwide, and increasing our capacity enables our partners to continue growing and capturing the opportunities from very favorable market trends.”

The company said that the investment is the second phase of a wider probiotics expansion project driven by the drastically increasing demand for probiotics globally.

Phase one of the expansion project is being carried out in Wisconsin and New York states in Madison and Rochester respectively. It is expected to be partially completed by the year end.

The second phase of probiotics expansion project has been scheduled for two years.

Heinzel added: “As we phase in more capacity, we will continue to maintain the high potency, stability and efficacy in our products that have made DuPont the global probiotics leader. Quality is extremely important in probiotic production, and our reputation for manufacturing quality has always been a differentiator with DuPont probiotics.”

Last month, DuPont launched two new cheese cultures under the CHOOZIT brand for soft-ripened cheese making.

It was followed up later by the launch of new stabilizer technologies under the name GRINDSTED JU Systems in Asia.
