Japanese airbag maker Takata has announced its plans to meet with engineers from its automaker customers, to update them about the root cause of the airbag inflator issue that led to recall of millions of vehicles worldwide.
The meeting will take place in Michigan and will include a special presentation by Germany's Fraunhofer Institute expert upon the issue, as the institution is conducting independent research to determine the core cause of the airbag inflator issue.
Takata CEO Shigehisa Takada said: "We are continuing testing and research and will continue to work openly and transparently with our OEM customers and to do everything we can to support the replacement of all the airbags covered by the automakers' recalls and safety campaigns.
"The safety of the driving public is our number one priority and we are committed to do what it takes to achieve this."
In order to keep up with the demand of automakers to replace the defective airbag inflators, Takata announced that it has increased its production to 450,000 kits per month from the previous 350,000 kits it produced during December.
