Takata Ordered Its Technicians to Destroy Results of Tests Conducted on Faulty Airbag

Japanese Auto part maker Takata reportedly ordered its technicians to destroy results of tests conducted on some of its air bags after finding out fault in them.

Takata conducted tests on the steel containers or inflators which contains an explosive which triggers the air bag in case of a collision.

However, the company found out that after collision the inflator exploded and released metal fragments which added further trouble in case of an accident.

In 2004, after retrieved around 50 airbags from scrap yards for tests after the accident Takata found issues in them, and instead of informing the issue to US federal safety regulators, the company ordered technicians to destroy the test data, reported New York Times .

After conducting tests the company engineers started designing possible fixes to prepare for a recall.

However, after four months into development the company ordered to halt the testing and started destroying evidence, an unnamed employee of the company told New York Times.
