Jaguar Land Rover has opened its first overseas manufacturing facility in north of Shanghai, China.
The $1.7bn plant has been built in a joint venture between Jaguar and Chinese automobile manufacturer Chery Automobile.
The company is planning to manufacture Range Rover Evoque at the new Chery Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Company which covers 400,000 square-metres of area.
By 2016 the plant is expected to have a production capacity of 130,000 units a year which will be produced for the Chinese market and it will be manufacturing three Jaguar Land Rover models.
The company is planning to use aluminum and steel technologies along with steel body shop comprising 306 robots, and an energy-efficient paint shop to manufacture the new vehicles.
Jaguar has already commenced construction of China's first aluminium body shop to support the production of new Jaguar products.
Jaguar Land Rover CEO Dr Speth said: "The opening of this world-class facility is an important milestone for Jaguar Land Rover.
"Since its launch, one in five Range Rover Evoques have been sold in China. Our decision to manufacture the Range Rover Evoque in Changshu is a result of our commitment to bringing more Chinese vehicles to Chinese customers."
