Recently, Baosteel achieves mass production of world's advanced level high strength non-quenched and tempered cold heading steel as the first in the country and offers bulk supply to a well-known domestic auto manufacturing enterprise for the auto steering system. This is the first time that Baosteel succeeds in mass production of non-quenched and tempered cold heading steel known as "environmentally friendly steel type" and also the first time that domestic steel enterprise succeeds in mass production of this steel type. Baosteel's breakthrough in non-quenched and tempered cold heading steel manufacturing breaks this product's long dependence on imports. It not only solves a material difficulty in the auto manufacturing industry, but also greatly reduces energy consumption and generates significant economic effectiveness and environmental benefits.
In early 2011, Baosteel and a well-known domestic auto manufacturer agrees on non-quenched and tempered cold heading steel cooperation program to jointly promote high-end auto parts non-quenched and tempered steel localization. For this end, Baosteel International Pudong International Trading, Baosteel Special Material, Baosteel Central Research Institute and Tubes, Bars and Steel Pipes Department set up high-end auto parts non-quenched and tempered steel production, marketing and research technological team. With cooperation from auto manufacturers and auto parts plants, they carry out key research in non-quenched and tempered cold heading steel chemical composition and production process. Team members develop detailed process research and development roadmap and carry out research and development work in die casting process and continuous casting process and have benchmarking with imported similar products After several trial and research, product performance has been fundamentally improved and the indicators meet and exceed steel imports performance indicators and fulfill the requirements of users. In September last year for the first time it begins production and mass supply according to contract.
It is understood that, targeted toward domestic auto manufacturing industry's growing demand for high-end auto parts steel localization, Baosteel and domestic auto manufacturers will further cooperation and dedicate to high-end auto parts non-quenched and tempered cold heading steel products R & D, manufacturing and application.
