Nissin Foods Makes Recipe Changes for Cup Noodles Products in US

Nissin Foods has come up with recipe changes for its Cup Noodles brand in the US in an attempt to make it more nutritious.

The instant ramen creator says that the cup noodles will now have reduced sodium content, no added Monosodium glutamate (MSG) and artificial flavors.

Nissin Foods USA president Al Multari said: "Most recently, we asked our consumers what changes they'd like to see in our Cup Noodles product.

“They told us that without sacrificing taste, the three most compelling changes we could make to our recipe were: lower sodium, no added MSG and no artificial flavors. This is exactly what we've been able to accomplish.”

Following the new Cup Noodles roll out, the company plans to launch its first ever national advertising campaign in the US in November this year.

The nutrition changes that Nissin has made include reduction of sodium by more than 20% in its three best-selling flavors, while its other flavors see around 15% lower sodium.

The changes also include removal of added MSG, all artificial flavors and added natural ingredients.

The instant noodle maker said that small traces of naturally occurring glutamates will be present from ingredients like tomato, soy sauce and red chili pepper.

Nissin said that it has replaced its artificial flavors with natural ingredients that include lime, turmeric and paprika.

In March this year, Nissin had launched two new flavors of its cup noodle product – Luxury Shark Fin and Softshell Turtle- in Japan, RocketNews24 reported.

The company products include Bowl Noodles, Cup Noodles, Ramen Bowl, Souper Meal, Top Ramen and Chow Mein
