Anglo-Dutch consumer goods company Unilever plans to shut the ice cream facility in Clearwater, Florida, US.
This move will result in 210 job losses at the facility.
The company in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification or WARN said that it will carry the layoffs between September and December 2014.
Unilever spokesperson Jaime Stein was quoted by Tampa Bay Business Journal as saying that employees have been informed about the closing and layoffs two weeks ago.
The company has decided to transfer operations to its other facilities located in Covington of Tennesse and Sikeston of Missouri.
In 2013, Unilever invested around $108m in the Covington facility.
The Clearwater facility was opened in 1982, while the company acquired it in 1993.
