Siemens (Booth 635) announced the launch of its Simogear line of geared motors, touting the motors and related technologies as ideal for meeting the needs of a resurgent North American manufacturing industry.
At a Monday press conference, Doug Keith, president of Siemens Drive Technologies Division, said with strong growth for manufacturing expected in North America over the next several years, companies will be looking to install new conveyor systems or upgrade existing ones, and will need efficient motors that are easy to deploy and maintain.
Keith also noted the Simogear motors pair well with Siemens new Sinamics V20 inverter to bring greater energy efficiency to conveyor systems or other applications.
“We are on the cusp of a manufacturing renaissance in North America which will require technologies that are efficient, reliable, compact and work well together,” Keith said. “The Simogear line is perfect for these tasks.”
The motors are being assembled at a new 45,000-square-foot plant near Greenville, S.C. The Siemens plant employs lean manufacturing practices and was touted as an example of on-shoring to rapidly meet North American demand.
