German automaker Daimler is reportedly set to build its Sprinter vans at its plant located in Ladson, near Charleston in South Carolina.
With the production of the new vehicle, the company is also expected to add 1,200 new jobs to the plant, reported Reuters.
The German automaker is reportedly planning to make the official announcement in this regard on Friday.
The Mercedes Benz maker previously hinted plans to extend its production footprint for vans by shifting some manufacturing to North America in order to meet the local demand.
Most of the Sprinter vans are presently produced in kit forms at the company's manufacturing facilities in Duesseldorf and Ludwigsfelde in Germany and then the kits are shipped to South Carolina for assembly.
Reuters cited South Carolina state representative Chip Limehouse as saying: "They'll be using U.S. parts and assembling the entire vehicle here in North Charleston.
"This will be a 100 percent American-made automobile."
