Qualitas Health and Valicor Renewables have entered into a strategic partnership to combine their expertise and experience in biology, advanced chemistry and technology commercialization to develop next-generation algae-based products.
The move will accelerate the launch of high-EPA Omega-3 oil from algae.
Qualitas Health chief technology officer Isaac Berzin said that exclusive access to Valicor's extraction technology offers the company a significant technological advantage and reduces the time-to-market its pure-EPA omega-3 oil from algae.
"It completes the necessary portfolio of technologies needed to manufacture an algae-based Omega-3 supplement on a commercial scale," Berzin added.
Valicor Renewables Business Development vice president Brian Goodall said: "Valicor's extraction technology is designed to keep the natural algae polar lipids intact while avoiding the use of potentially harmful solvents."
Qualitas Health is involved in developing vegetarian food supplements and pharmaceutical ingredients based on microalgae.
Valicor services, headquartered in Dexter, Michigan, offers services to automotive, aerospace, alternative fuels, algae-derived products, power generation, and steel industries. It operates three business groups, Environmental Services, Separation Technologies and Renewables, concentrating on the advancement of its technologies in processes and fluid management.
