UK based electric bus manufacturer Optare has secured an electric bus supply order from Nottingham City Council in England, Europe.
Under the order, the manufacturer will supply ten units of the Optare Solo SR midibus model that has a capacity to carry up to 33 seated passengers and the larger Versa model that can carry up to 40 passengers.
The electric busses will be added to Nottingham's public transport network, making it largest free-running EV bus fleet in Europe.
Optare deputy CEO Glenn Saint said: "The successful operation of our EV models in Nottingham and elsewhere has proved beyond doubt that this technology is both technically and commercially viable and that electric buses have a place in the public transport scene both here in Britain and around the world."
Features of the busses include a rapid charge system that enable the vehicles to use charging stations being installed at the Queen's Drive Park and Ride site on the outskirts of the city.
