General Motors (GM) is recalling around 83,572 sport-utility vehicles and pickup trucks due to issues with the ignition switch.

The issue was uncovered during an internal review by the company. The recalle would involve Chevrolet Silverado light-duty and heavy-duty pickups, GMC Sierra light duty and heavy-duty pickups, Avalanche, Tahoe, Escalade ESV and Escalade EXT, along with Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles , reported Reuters.

According to the company, the affected ignition lock actuator has larger outer diameter than required, which could lead the ignition key to getting stuck in "start" position.

The company said, if the vehicle experiences a jarring event, then the ignition lock cylinder could shift into the "accessory" position which could affect power braking, engine power and power steering of the vehicles.

Reuters reported GM spokesperson Alan Alder as saying: "Also, the timing of the key movement into the accessory position relative to crash sensing could result in the air bags not deploying in certain crashes."

The company also claims that it is unaware about any crashes or injuries related to the issue, and expects less than 500 units to be affected by the problem.

Faulty ignition switch was one of the major causes for recalls made by GM in 2014.
