Global plant protein manufacturer Axiom Foods will enter India to produce natural rice bran oil to tap the vast potential of the market.
In India, Axiom Foods will produce a range of stabilized rice bran ingredients for both human food and animal feed segments.
According to the Los Angeles based company, the rice bran oil produced at its Indian plant will be free from hexane and ethanol.
However, location of the plant and the investment details were not revealed by Axiom Foods.
Axiom Foods CEO David Janow said that the company’s natural process will yield a chemical-free and nutrient-rich product for the food and equine feed industries at a cost that would be 25% lesser than what it is offered in the market currently.
Janow added: "We have identified a varietal of Indian rice as having the highest yield of oil and nutrients; and the massive source meets our strict quality testing requirements. Building this facility is a sustainable expansion, as it eradicates having to ship rice across the world for processing.
“Commercial quantities will be reached within six months and following we will also fraction protein from the bran layer. With the addition of these products and facility, Axiom Foods will help lead the rice bran ingredient industry.”
In July, the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) had granted GRAS (Generally Recongnized As Safe) classification to Axiom Foods’ Oryzatein organic brown rice protein ingredient.
Prior to that, its pea protein concentrative Vegotein was also given a GRAS classification by the FDA.
