Nissan has unveiled a Nissan Gripz concept car with hybrid-electric technologies, blending the features of a compact crossover with performance of a sports car.

The car is equipped with an EV technology based Series hybrid system "Pure Drive e-Power", along with an efficient gasoline engine.

Nissan said that the powertrain combines Nissan's various control technologies, which helps the vehicle provide smooth, swift and linear acceleration without compromising on fuel efficiency.

The company said that it has used new "emotional geometry" design language for the concept car and the company drew inspiration from Nissan Sway, which features a V-motion grille, boomerang lamps front and rear, a floating roof and a kicked-up C pillar.

The car features four doors, which includes deep dihedral front doors that swings out and up when opened and rear-hinged half-doors in the rear portion. The absence of B-pillar provides easy access to the 2+2 interior.

The car offers "EV" mode for everyday driving, a four-wheel-drive mode for off-road driving in the snow, or a "drift" mode -- which uses the Gripz's electric motors to give the same feel as a rear-wheel drive sports car.

As for technology, the car features cameras built into the headlamps that records the driver's every move and stream the video to the Internet, live.

Camera based technology is becoming popular amongst automakers as companies including BMW and Volvo has introduced camera based technology that not only tracks the street but are also capable of tracking the drivers moves.

Nissan senior vice president Shiro Nakamura said: "Nissan pioneered the idea of the compact crossover, and this is reflected in the enormous popularity of Qashqai and JUKE and the resulting growth of the market segment as other manufacturers play catch-up.

"While the Nissan Gripz Concept is not seen as a direct replacement for either of those two iconic vehicles, it does show the extremes to which the compact crossover can be pushed."
