South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor has secured a contract from the Peruvian government to deliver 800 units of Santa Fe-based police cars.
Delivery of the Santa Fe police cars, which are based on the company's Santa Fe 2.4 gasoline model, are scheduled to be completed by November 2013.
Designed specially to carry out its duties, the vehicles have basic features of a police car, such as bullet proof windows, light bars and searchlights.
The cars are also fitted with several smart features such as an in-vehicle laptop, fingerprint verification system and an advanced communication system, which allows real-time data exchange with the central control center.
Hyundai Motor executive vice president and chief operating officer Tak Uk Im said the company expects that the project will strengthen its brand image in the growing Peruvian market.
"Through exhaustive inspections, we will ensure perfect quality to reinforce our reliable image," Uk Im said.
Hyundai said that the first batch of 100 Santa Fe police cars will be loaded this week.
