US-based Green Flash Brewing has broken ground on its new brewing facility in the city of Virginia Beach, Virginia.
The move comes in response to the growing demand for Green Flash beers on the East Coast.
To be spread over an area of around 58,000ft2, the proposed production site, including brewery, tasting room and beer garden, represents an investment of around $20m.
Construction on the facility is scheduled for completion in 2016.
Green Flash Brewing co-founder and CEO Mike Hinkley said: "After announcing plans to build our facility in Virginia Beach, we have been moving forward step-by-step towards breaking ground.
"We are breaking ground to enter the first phase of construction, focused on the layout and building orientation on the nine-acre lot. We want to be sure we are mindful of our impact on the immediate surroundings, so we are planning to incorporate the pre-existing landscape and trees into our spacious beer garden and will develop routes for smart traffic flow, accessible walkways and ample parking for guests."
When operational, the brewery will have the capability of producing 100,000 barrels of beer annually and will employ 40 people.
The fermentation tanks will be delivered in three phases for the brewery, which will produce over 45% of the company's beer.
Green Flash has partnered with The Miller Group to carry out land acquisition, design and permitting.
