Ford is planning to cut 20% of its staff, around 680 employees from its Craiova plant in Romanian division due to decline in sales of the company’s products in the European market.
Ford will offer voluntary redundancy programme to its employees in its car division and engine division with the employees to decide by December 18.
However if the program does not reach the target number of layoffs then the company is planning to layoff staff on economic reasons.
In 2008, Ford took over Romanian company Automobile Craiova and started producing B-Max model which ended up having low demand in the market which added to the problems.
Reuters reported Ford Romania saying: "To help better secure the competitiveness of the Craiova facility, and to control operational costs, it is necessary to take further measures to adjust production volumes to the current market demand."
"This also requires a reduction in the workforce."
